2nd Annual Meeting of European Patent Litigators Association (EPLIT)

On 29 May 2015 the 2nd annual meeting of EPLIT took place in Paris. The meeting was opened by EPLIT’s President Koen Bijvank by welcoming all the distinguished speakers and participants of a panel discussion about the industry’s preparations for the UPC system. Koen passed the word to Patrice Vidon, EPLIT’s treasurer, who was able to report about EPLIT’s growing membership, up to about 170 members just before the annual meeting.  This membership and financial report was followed by reports of the chairmen of EPLIT’s working groups; the following reports are available for downloading:

  • Costs of the UP/UPC-System by Eugen Popp
  • Code of Conduct by Kim Finnilä
  • Privilege by Terenc Török
  • Education and Training by Christian Köster

The reports of the chairmen of the working groups were followed by presentations of distinguished speakers of which the following are available:

  • UPC Technical Judges: what role and what training – Xavier Seuba (CEIPI)
  • The way in which European Patent Attorneys can contribute to making the UPC system success – Patrice Vidon
  • The ongoing preparations towards the unitary patent system – Margot Fröhlinger (European Patent Office)
  • The establishment of the Central Division and preparations for the UPC system in France – Max Brunner (French Ministry of Justice)

The meeting was concluded with a highly informative and interesting panel discussion about the industry’s preparations for the UPC system with Marianne Rots (Unilever), Ronald Pols (Hexcel), and Pieter Vandersteen (Janssen Pharmaceutica) moderated by Mr. Edward Oates.
